Scammers are pretending to be Solon firefighters, claiming to honor fallen first responders.
A post on the Solon Fire Department Facebook page warns residents that scammers are conducting a grift in which they pretend to be selling t-shirts online. KCJJ has received one of the texts. It claims to be from the Solon Fire Department selling t-shirts from a URL that is included in the text.
The text sent to KCJJ came from an 802 area code, which is Vermont. The URL leads to a page that appears to be honoring fallen firefighters with a t-shirt that includes the Solon Fire Department logo. Solon firefighters confirmed to KCJJ that the website is a scam.
A similar t-shirt sales scam targeted supporters of the Jefferson-Monroe Fire Department in Swisher last summer.
