A legendary comedy troupe formed in Iowa City has launched a YouTube page featuring some of their classic sketches.

Ducks’ Breath Mystery Theater formed in Iowa City in 1975 before moving to San Francisco the next year. The group has created such popular characters as Dr. Science, Randee of the Redwoods, Ian Shoales and others. Dr. Science was a staple on National Public Radio and had an eponymous television show that ran for eight episodes on Fox, Randee of the Redwoods was a spokesman for MTV in the late 1980’s who ran a mock campaign for president in 1988, and Ian Shoales was a fake pundit who appeared frequently on Nightline and is considered a precursor to The Colbert Report.

Ducks’ Breath also created the mock Horror film Zadar: Cow From Hell, which filmed in and around Iowa City, Solon, Tipton and Mt. Vernon in 1989. The movie starred the members of Duck’s Breath, as well as No Same Theater alum Toby Huss, who went on to voice neighbor Kahn and Cotton Hill in “King of the Hill” and famously played Elaine’s boyfriend “The Wiz” on Seinfeld. He’s recently played Weird Al Yankovic’s fictional father in the Roku Channel mockumentary “Weird” and Watergate figure James McCord in the HBO miniseries “White House Plumbers”.

Duck’s Breath broke up in 1990, but has reformed for reunion shows. The latest was in 2015.
