The Iowa City Airport Commission has announced it has established the Iowa City Municipal Airport Charitable Giving Fund, which aims to raise money for improvements to the Iowa City Municipal Airport.

The fund will assist with general support, upkeep, beautification, and capital improvements to buildings, equipment, and grounds at the Iowa City airport.
Those interested in donating can do by:

  • Making a donation at the Community Foundation of Johnson County’s website,
  • Sending a check with the name “Iowa City Municipal Airport Charitable Giving Fund” on the memo line to Community Foundation of Johnson County, 501 12th Ave., Ste 102, Coralville, Iowa, 52241, or
  • Directing your donor-advised fund to contribute to the fund.

The first project supported by the fund will be the new art mural on the airport hangar that faces Riverside Drive. The mural is being facilitated through a partnership with the Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee.

The fund’s first goal is to raise $35,000 to cover the cost of the mural. Those who donate will be acknowledged on a plaque inside the Airport’s terminal, though anonymous gifts are also welcomed.

Through July 15th, those who donate over $5,000 will be allowed to propose a personally-connected design element, such as having their aircraft included in the mural, as a thank-you. This will be limited to the first seven qualifying donations received above $5,000 or until the airport commission reaches its fundraising goal. There will be only one proposed design element allowed per donation regardless of total amount. All proposed design elements are subject to final approval by the artist and the Airport Commission.
