The University of Iowa has put the Mayflower Residence Hall up for sale.

The Gazette reported last week that the price tag is in the $45 million range and won’t be available to prospective buyers until the summer of 2024.

The University is selling the 55-year-old building as part of its plan to construct a new updated residence hall by using the proceeds from the sale along with additional borrowing.  Students will still be occupying Mayflower for the 2023-24 school year.

The UI will continue using Parklawn Residence Hall until the new dorms are built.

When making the case to sell the building, officials at the University of Iowa said it’s last on the list of desired residences, and the first among first-year students who transfer to other halls, mainly because of its proximity more than a mile from the main campus. It also has deferred maintenance issues that the new buyer would assume.
