A Hope House resident is back behind bars after five months on the run.

Online records indicate 38-year-old Deshon Holmes signed out of the Holiday Road facility to go to Community Family Resources just before 6:30am on February 1st. His listed return time was noon that day, but the Department of Corrections says he never returned.

Holmes was taken into custody and booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 9:15 Thursday morning and charged with Escape From Custody. If convicted, he could face up to one year in jail.

Holmes also absconded from Hope House in January of last year. Police records show Holmes signed out of the facility to go to work at Sunoco on Independence Road in Iowa City.  He was due back by 6:30pm, but failed to return.

Holmes pleaded guilty to a charge of Escape From Custody and was sentenced to one week in jail.

Holmes was sentenced to Hope House on a Domestic Abuse charge after police say he assaulted his girlfriend at the Iowa Lodge in September of 2021.
