An Iowa City transient arrested after allegedly damaging a Town And Campus Apartments door faces additional charges after allegedly ripping up a jail mattress.

Police say 24-year-old Shyawna Collins had already been issued multiple trespass warnings to refrain from being on the property but has repeatedly returned.  Tuesday at approximately 10:37 am, Collins allegedly kicked in the door to an apartment, causing $375 in damages.  She was detained in the vicinity of the broken door.

Wednesday at 1:40 am while in a holding cell at the Johnson County Jail,   Collins reportedly created a hole in a blue foam mattress given to her to use, and crawled inside.  Deputies made contact with her and found her inside of the mattress with a large hole in the bottom. A check of video surveillance allegedly showed Collins kicking a hole in the mattress and crawling inside. Officials say she has previously damaged other jail mattresses in the past.

Collins was charged with 4th degree Criminal Mischief and Trespass causing Damage for the Town and Campus incident, and 5th degree criminal mischief for damaging the jail mattress.  If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
