A Shelter House resident was taken into custody Sunday morning after he was reportedly found to be intoxicated.

43-year-old Robert Smith was involved in a physical altercation just before 9am, resulting in a call to police.  Upon arrival, Smith was allegedly observed with the strong odor of ingested alcohol, bloodshot watery eyes, and poor balance.  He reportedly admitted to being intoxicated, but refused chemical testing.

A search incident to Smith’s arrest reportedly turned up marijuana in his pocket.

He was charged with Public Intoxication and Marijuana Possession. If convicted, Smith could be sentenced to up to 13 months in prison.
