A Coralville man faces several charges after an alleged assault on his live-in intimate partner.

The incident occurred at around 6pm Sunday. 44-year-old Detre Anderson of the Western Hills Estates Mobile Home park allegedly shoved the woman onto the ground and proceeded to impede her airflow by placing his foot on her neck. After she got up, Anderson reportedly followed her into the bedroom where he pinned her to the bed and used his hands to impede her airflow again.

The woman went to call police afterwards, but Anderson allegedly took her phone and kept it from her so she couldn’t call 911.

Police say the woman sustained injuries to her neck, chest, arms and legs.

Anderson has two prior Domestic Abuse convictions from 2001 and 2015.

He faces two counts each of Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or Subsequent Offense and Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow, as well as one count of Obstruction of Emergency Communications. If convicted on all charges, Anderson could be sentenced to over 17 years in prison.
