Iowa City Police warn community about scammers posing as officers

The Iowa City Police Department is warning the public about a scam involving perpetrators posing as law enforcement.

The ICPD has received multiple reports from community members indicating someone posing as a police officer contacted them demanding payment for an outstanding warrant.

Police remind the public that no law enforcement agency will contact someone directly and demand money. If you receive a phone call like this, please hang up immediately.

These incidents are being actively investigated by the ICPD, and they are asking the public for assistance. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Iowa City Police Department at 319-356-5275.

Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about this incident that leads to an arrest.
