Cedar Rapids woman arrested after investigation into shooting finds it was self-inflicted

Cedar Rapids Police have arrested a resident on multiple drug charges, along with misleading investigators about a gunshot wound to her leg.

On October 16, 2023 at approximately 7:41 p.m., Cedar Rapids Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of 34th St NE in reference to a shooting.  Officers found 39-year-old Amber Snider with a gunshot wound to the leg.  She claimed to have been shot in the leg by an unknown, masked assailant outside her home.

Investigators later learned Snider’s claims were false and that her injury was self-induced.  During the investigation, Snider’s residence was found to contain illegal substances and firearms.

Snider was arrested on Tuesday and booked at the Linn County Correctional Center. She faces several charges related to this incident including  Intent To Manufacture/Deliver Meth, Failure To Affix Drug Tax Stamp, Possession of a Firearm Or Offensive Weapon By Felon, Making False Reports, Marijuana possession, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Snider could be sentenced to over 37 years in prison.
