An Iowa City man with a long list of arrests for public intoxication was arrested again after a September incident with food truck workers.

The afternoon of September 5th, the truck in question was doing business on the 1900 block of Keokuk Street and a juvenile who was working with their mother called 911 and claimed that an older white man was actively trying to get inside of their food truck. Upon arrival, they found 72-year-old Ronal Rarey of Cross Park Avenue lying in a bush, unable to stand up.

When asked why he was trying to get inside the food truck, Rarey allegedly answered, “Why not?”

He reportedly had unsteady balance, slurred speech and the odor of alcohol on his breath. A bottle of whiskey and a bottle of vodka was allegedly round sitting on a table near Rarey’s belongings.  A PBT was administered and showed his BAC above .300 percent.

Rarey was picked up Saturday morning on a public intoxication warrant. He faces up to 30 days in jail if convicted.

He’s been charged dozen of times for various crimes including intoxication, assault, and interference with official acts.
