A North Liberty woman was charged with Child Endangerment after leaving her baby in her car while she and her boyfriend shopped at the Coralville Walmart.

The incident occurred Wednesday just before 3:30pm.  Officers were dispatched to the store on report of a baby left in a car .  The witness told police she saw the baby in the vehicle with no one around, and it was crying and upset.

The officer unlocked the car to tend to the baby, after which 26-year-old Katheran Forgey of East Zeller Street came out of the store. She reportedly said that she had only been inside for about ten minutes, but store video shows Forgey and her boyfriend enter the store at 2:45pm. The call to police came in at 3:24 pm, meaning that the 1-year-old child was left unattended for nearly 50 minutes.

Forgey was arrested and charged with Child Endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
