A Coralville man was charged this week after failing to update his address for the sex offender registry.

On October 27th, 22-year-old Jeremiah Daniels of 22nd Avenue was arrested for Driving While Barred. Daniels was found to be on the Sex Offender Registry and is required to notify the county sheriff within five business days if he moves.

On the date of his arrest, Daniels’ address was listed as Maggard Street in Iowa City. When confronted about this, Daniels allegedly told police he had “just moved,” and did not know his new address.

When he appeared for his semi-annual update at the Sheriff’s Office November 1st, Daniels provided his current address. Copies of leases Daniels signed indicated that his lease on Maggard Street ended at the end of July and his lease on 22nd Avenue began on October 1st. The current resident at the Maggard Street address did not know Daniels and he had not stayed at the residence since the termination of his lease.  By law, Daniels should have notified the Sheriff of his new address no later than August 1st.

Daniels was charged with Sex Offender Violation first offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
