A Waterloo woman charged with OWI allegedly left the squad car taking her into custody during a traffic stop.

Authorities pulled 40-year-old Ashlie Hampton Williams of Hall Avenue over at around 11:30 New Year’s Eve on eastbound I80 near the 239 mile marker for reportedly swerving from lane to lane and driving on the traffic lines.  She allegedly showed signs of intoxication, such as slowed speech and the odor of ingested alcohol. After performing poorly on field tests, Williams refused chemical testing.

Williams reportedly refused to listen to commands while being detained, and got out of the trooper’s vehicle during a traffic stop, although she was not free to go. She also allegedly turned the trooper’s vehicle off in the parking lot of the Coralville Police Department and reportedly interfered with the trooper’s investigation continuously.

Williams was charged with OWI first offense and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
