The City of Iowa City has received 29 submissions for the fiscal year 2024 Racial Equity and Social Justice Grant.

The grant, created by the City Council in 2017, assists community-based organizations in building capacity to address social justice and racial equity needs. The grant has six priority service areas: Building Community, Criminal Justice, Education, Employment, Health, and Housing.

Grants are available to Iowa City-based organizations, both non- and for-profit, with the purpose of encouraging, empowering, and engaging racial equity and social justice initiatives through programs, activities, or services that help eliminate inequities in the Iowa City community.

The Human Rights Commission will be reviewing applications and then forwarding its recommendations to the City Council for review and approval. The City Council has approved $100,000 for fiscal year 2024, which will be split among the selected recipients.

A link to review the submissions is available with this story on the KCJJ app and at 1630 KCJJ dot com.
