A Quad Cities man has been charged in connection with a New Year’s Day beating on the Ped Mall.

25-year-old Olijuan Abraham of Bettendorf was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 9:45 Friday morning. Iowa City Police say Abraham and a co-defendant got into an argument with another subject near the Ped Mall playground just after 12:15 New Year’s Day morning. Surveillance video reportedly shows Abraham punch the alleged victim in the face and knock him to the ground. Police say Abraham and his co-defendant are then seen kicking the man in the face and head while he was down. The man sustained a broken nose, a cut to his chin that required stitches, a cut to the inside of the mouth, and scrapes over much of his body.

Video of the incident reportedly reveals Abraham and his co-defendant were joined in the assault by a third, unidentified person.

Police say Abraham and his co-defendant, who is not identified in arrest records, were easily identified by law enforcement.  Abraham is charged with Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury and Participating in a  Riot. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
