An Iowa City man was charged after allegedly arriving at his residence during a welfare check while intoxicated.

Officers were performing the welfare check at the Heinz Road apartment of 44-year-old Timothy Herzog Wednesday at 11:40 am when he drove into the parking lot, operating a Dodge Ram pickup.  Upon contact, Herzog reportedly showed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his person.

Herzog allegedly admitted to drinking and consented to a Datamaster test, which showed his BAC at .264 percent, over three times the legal limit to drive.

A check of Herzog’s driving record showed his status as revoked until July 6th for a previous OWI test failure.

He was charged with 1st offense OWI and Driving while Revoked. He faces up to two years in jail if convicted on both counts.
