Iowa City Police: Reported armed subject near Kinnick Stadium was carrying BB gun

The Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center received reports of a subject armed with a handgun outside Kinnick Stadium early Monday morning, but the gun in question turned out to be only a BB gun.
Officers were called to a report of an armed subject on Melrose Avenue outside the stadium just before 12:15 a.m. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Noah Goebel of Westgate Street, reportedly refused to stop for police despite verbal warnings and the activation of their emergency lights. Officers eventually used force to gain Goebel’s compliance. A realistic-looking .357 revolver BB gun was allegedly found in his pants pocket. Police say Goebel also smelled of ingested alcohol.
Arrest records indicate Goebel is currently the defendant in an order of protection, making him ineligible to possess a firearm. He’s charged with Carrying Toy Guns and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 60 days in jail.
