An Iowa City traffic stop for tinted windows has led to an arrest on weapons charges.

The Iowa State Patrol pulled over a 2022 Ford F350 on Camp Cardinal Boulevard near Preston Lane for window tint and markings violations just after 10:45 on the morning of June 9th. A trooper reports seeing a blue THC vape inside. The driver, 25-year-old Vernon Summervill of Savonburg, Kansas, allegedly admitted to buying it in Missouri and knowing it was illegal to possess in Iowa. Summervill then reportedly handed the officer a second THC vape from the center console and said he had other items in his backpack. The State Patrol says a search of the backpack turned up a third THC vape, and Summervill admitted to having a firearm in the waistband of his pants.

Summervill is now charged with Person Eligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
