Iowa leaders and Senator Chuck Grassley are pushing the Trump administration to act as China stops buying US soybeans in favor of those from Argentina and Brazil because of new steep tariffs.

The Gazette reports Grassley expressed frustration that the Trump administration announced a $20 billion bailout of Argentina while Iowa farmers face steep losses.

Grassley has spoken with U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins about relief options and that the administration is considering using tariff revenue to provide direct support to farmers.

According to an Iowa State University study, Trump’s regulatory tariffs could cost Iowa’s soybean farmer as much as $1.5 billion, while corn pork and ethanol producers also face losses.
