Local authorities have arrested a Minnesota double homicide suspect after a police chase through Washington, Louisa, and Muscatine counties that ended west of Fruitland.
45-year-old Ryan Zimmerman of Courtland, Minnesota is accused of shooting and killing a 50-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, believed to be Zimmerman’s ex-girlfriend, in Hanska, Minnesota. Zimmerman’s 2013 black Toyota Camry was spotted driving eastbound on Highway 92 by a Washington County deputy Sunday afternoon.
A pursuit ensued through Louisa County before a Louisa County deputy used a PIT maneuver to disable the vehicle near the intersection of 255th Street and Emmert Avenue in Muscatine County. Zimmerman reportedly tried fleeing through a field on foot and was arrested after being caught by a police K9 unit.
Zimmerman allegedly shot at a Louisa County deputy while passing through Letts. The shotgun was found on the ground near where Zimmerman was captured.
Zimmerman faces numerous pending local charges as well as extradition to Minnesota on the homicide charges.
