Cedar Rapids Police announce charges against juveniles reportedly involved in Friday night shooting

Cedar Rapids Police have announced the arrest of two juveniles charged for their alleged involvement in a shooting Friday night.

Officers were dispatched to the 6600 block of 1st Avenue W at approximately 6:26p.m. and located an adult female suffering what appears to be gunfire-related injuries.  She did not require hospital treatment for her injuries.

Officers initiated an immediate search of the area and located two juvenile males matching witness and video descriptions of persons connected to this event.  They have been detained.

16-year-old Gerald Vance of Cedar Rapids has been charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Willful Injury resulting in Bodily Injury, Going Armed with Intent, Reckless Use of a Firearm causing Bodily Injury, Minor armed with a Dangerous Weapon, and Person Ineligible to carry Dangerous Weapons.  According to a release from the CRPD, Vance’s name is being released as juvenile confidentiality laws allow for the public release of juveniles charged with a forcible felony.

Another 17-year-old juvenile was charged with Minor Armed with Dangerous Weapon, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapon, and Marijuana Possession.

Both are currently at the Linn County Detention Center.  The investigation continues in this case.
