The City of Iowa City has begun the process of revitalizing the area including and around Sycamore Mall.
Earlier this week, the city council approved an Urban Renewal Area for the block, which sits between Highway 6 and Lower Muscatine Road and Sycamore Street and 1st Avenue.
Most urban renewal plans already have a specific project in mind, but in the case of the Sycamore Mall area city officials wanted to commit to the revitalization before seeking input from nearby residents about what they would like to see from the area.
No timetable for the project has been released.
