IOWA CITY, Iowa – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, July 10, 2026, to celebrate the newly renovated Administration Building and Visitor Center, and newly constructed ranger equipment storage facility at Coralville Lake.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Administration Building and Visitor Center located at 2850 Prairie Du Chien Rd NE, Iowa City, IA 52240. The public and media are invited to attend and tour the facilities immediately following the official remarks.
Coralville Lake, a multi-purpose reservoir located on the Iowa River, was completed in 1958. The primary mission of the lake and its 1,400-foot-long, 100-foot-high dam is flood risk management and low-flow augmentation during periods of low water.
Beyond its critical flood risk management role, the lake is a premier destination for public recreation. It boasts more than 500 campsites, 20 miles of multi-use trails, and the Devonian Fossil Gorge — a 365-million-year-old limestone sea floor that was exposed during major regional floods in 1993 and 2008.
