A suspect accused of threatening someone with a knife in Coralville is now charged in connection with a downtown Iowa City assault where he allegedly punched a woman in front of her daughter.
22-year-old Davis Echolas of Holiday Road was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 7:00 Monday morning after he allegedly stole a large knife from the kitchen inside Casey’s on Commerce Drive and used it to threaten a customer.
Iowa City Police have now charged Echolas with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Disorderly Conduct after an altercation that was reported about 90 minutes before the knife incident. Officers were called to the intersection of Linn Street and Iowa Avenue just before 2:30 Sunday morning after Echolas allegedly encouraged one woman to physically assault another while the two women were arguing.. Echolas then allegedly punched the mother of one of the initial combatants. The woman suffered a broken nose.
If convicted on the assault charge, Echolas faces a maximum of one year in jail. He faces up to three years behind bars if convicted on the charges from the knife incident.
