A North Liberty man was taken into custody Monday afternoon after allegedly assaulting his domestic partner.
According to police, 30 year-old WIlliam Tigner of Chestnut Street was involved in a physical domestic assault at around 5:15pm. During the incident, he allegedly pushed the woman against a wall and squeezed her neck while lifting for an estimated 30 seconds. He then reportedly pushed her onto the couch and floor, pulling her hair in the process.
At some point during the altercation, the victim tried to call 911 but Tigner allegedly took the phone away from her.
When officers interviewed the victim, she complained of shortness of breath and proceeded to dry heave or throw up. She also claimed to be fearful of future attacks.
Tigner reportedly admitted that what he did was wrong and that he might have taken the assault too far.
Tigner was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow, and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to over six years in prison.
