An area transient was taken into custody on multiple charges after he was allegedly found trying to break into an Iowa City park building.
24-year-old Benjamin Rodgers was reportedly located at Sand Lake Park on McCollister Boulevard just before 10pm Monday, after hours. He was allegedly trying to pry a door open with sharp metallic tools.
Rodgers was told to drop the tools by police, but he allegedly ignored them. He only acquiesced when a taser was pointed at him.
Rodgers admitted to attempting the break in and caused damage to the door. A search incident to arrest reportedly discovered a metal smoking pipe with marijuana residue inside.
He was charged with 4th degree Criminal Mischief, Trespass causing Damage, Interference with Official Acts, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Rodgers could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail.
