A Muscatine man was killed and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle accident northeast of Lone Tree.
The Iowa State Patrol says a Ford F450 pickup was half in the road on 130th Street near Johnson-Muscatine Avenue around 7:30am on September 4th when it was struck by a semi being driven by 25-year-old Jordan Sexton of Muscatine. The semi ruptured its fuel tanks, caught fire and swerved left. After the fire burned most of the semi it separated from the trailer, which struck a pedestrian placing signs for road maintenance.
The pickup entered the north ditch and came to rest on its right side.
Sexton was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the pickup, 53-year-old Carleton Beckman of Illinois City, Illinois, and another man identified as James Dickess III of Muscatine, were transported to the UIHC by ambulance. Their conditions have not been released.
The accident remains under investigation.
