The University of Iowa has announced a new initiative to award faculty excellence that comes with a $100,000 budget for those who are singled out.
The Iowa Now website reports that the UI Distinguished Professorship Program will recognize tenured faculty who “are enhancing economic development and well-being within the state of Iowa and beyond through their teaching, research, and/or scholarship.
Awardees will get $100,000 distributed evenly over a five-year period to support their activities, as well as a permanent $6000 increase to their base salary.
Nominations for the first round of award-winners are being accepted through April 15th. Up to three professorships will be awarded each year.
