Police say an Iowa football player was stopped with multiple passengers on his motorcycle, leading to his eventual arrest for drunk driving.

According to an arrest report, an officer noticed the motorcycle with Tristan Wirfs – who is 6′-5″ and 320 pounds – and two passengers on Riverside Drive a little before 1:45 a.m. Sunday. The officers says their “laughing and yelling” drew his attention and he noticed Wirfs was wearing a bar wristband.

Wirfs, 19, allegedly showed multiple signs of intoxication and admitted to having “a couple of alcoholic beverages” earlier in the night. Police say he failed field sobriety testing and registered a BAC of .129 on a PBT,

He’s charged with 1st Offense Operating While Intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor carrying up to one year in jail.

Wirfs is a sophomore from Mount Vernon who played in 10 games as a true freshman last season, starting eight at tackle. He had been listed as a starter during spring practice.

Athletic director Gary Barta issued a statement on Sunday, saying they are still gathering facts about the incident and Wirfs will be subject to the school’s code of conduct.
