West Liberty man faces burglary, child endangerment charges after incident in IC

A West Liberty man faces felony burglary and a child endangerment charge after an incident Friday night on Iowa City’s southeast side.

Iowa City Police say 43-year-old Cesar Romero of North Columbus Street drove to a residence on Hollywood Boulevard just before 6:15 Friday night, entered through the front door without permission and assaulted a male inside, causing bodily injury. Romero admitted to police that he had entered the home with the intention of confronting the man. When asked if he assaulted the victim, Romero reportedly replied, “Maybe I hit him, but I don’t remember.”

Police say Romero brought his eight-year-old daughter with him, leaving her in the car while he assaulted the victim. The girl was present when Romero was arrested, and was later released to her mother’s custody. Investigators say the girl was visibly shaken and crying s a result of the incident.

Romero is charged with 1st Degree Burglary and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 27 years in prison.
