A Cedar Rapids man faces a host of charges after allegedly being found in possession of a firearm during an OWI stop.

Arrest records indicate that witnesses saw 33-year-old Tahaya Hardaway of 5th Street Southeast drive off the road several times for no apparent reason before rolling his vehicle in the ditch at the southbound mile marker 90 on Highway 218 just before 7pm Saturday.

Officers noted Hardaway had slurred speech, a mild odor of alcohol on his breath, and blood shot eyes. They also allege there were times during the incident when Hardaway wasn’t making sense.

A check of Hardaway’s driving record showed his status as barred; he also had two previous OWIs from Linn County in 2013 and Johnson County in 2017. Additionally, police allege they found a gun in the vehicle.

Hardaway was taken into custody and charged with his 3rd OWI, Driving while barred as a habitual offender, and unauthorized possession of weapons. If convicted on the charges, Hardaway could be sentenced to up to twelve years in prison.
