Allegedly assaulting police who were conducting a welfare check has led to a North Liberty woman’s arrest.

North Liberty Police were sent to the South Stewart Street residence of 39-year-old Emily Paul just after 2pm Friday after she had reportedly made threats to harm herself. Investigators say Paul was combative and upset.

After discussing several options, officers decided to transport Paul to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for evaluation. While Paul was being advised of the decision, she allegedly struck one officer two times on the side of his face. The officer complained of pain to his face, and there were obvious red marks where he was struck.

Paul then allegedly resisted handcuffing. She’s charged with Assault on Persons In Certain Occupations Causing Bodily Injury and Interference with Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of three years in prison.
