The West Branch Community School board voted Thursday to move ahead with the contract termination process for its high school principal.

Shannon Bucknell, who’s worked for the district since 2014, was placed on administrative leave in May but West Branch Police said he was not under any criminal investigation.

However, reports have surfaced that Bucknell was working without a valid license since January.

Superintendent Marty Jimmerson told KCRG TV that the vote was an initial step, and nothing is final. Bucknell has the right to request a hearing to appeal his termination.

West Branch Middle School principal Sara Oswald has been assuming Bucknell’s role at the High School since he was placed on leave.
