The Iowa Transportation Commission approved the $7.6 million Aviation Program for fiscal year 2020 on Monday, and part of the budget will benefit two area airports.

The Iowa City Municipal Airport is planning to reconstruct the apron and taxiway at a cost of $370,700; the state will fund nearly $315,100 of that project. They will also get $150,000 towards a fuel facility expansion expected to cost $177,900.

At The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids, they will be working on putting in support pavement at their air cargo facility. The state will contribute about $368,600 to that $433,670 project. That facility is also getting a major upgrade expected to cost nearly $15.9 million; however, the Commission is only contributing about $409,000 towards that project.

In total, the Commission’s budget will help fund over three dozen projects at airports in the state.
