Swisher man faces charges that he stole auto parts from one of his neighbors.

Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Plotz family farm on Plotz Road Northwest at 12:30 Friday afternoon for tools and vehicle parts being stolen. The suspect was initially believed to not be on the scene, but arriving officers discovered 19-year-old Victor Knight, who lives down the road, in a nearby field. He was found in possession of tools that could be used to take apart motor vehicles, as well as six car batteries, other car parts and copper cables.

Knight admitted to taking parts from several vehicles, saying he got $5 per battery from a scrapyard.
Deputies walked around the property and discovered numerous vehicles had been tampered with, with their batteries and/or alternators being removed. The victim estimated the cost to replace the parts and fix the damage was $1,500-$2,000.

Knight was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Theft and Trespassing Causing Over $300 in damage. If convicted, he faces a maximum of six years in prison.
