Man absent from Hope House located and arrested

A transient who was staying at Hope House on probation for a series of crimes has been arrested after being missing from the facility for over a week.
According to police, 27-year-old Jesse James Nicastri signed out of Hope House on October 25th to keep an appointment at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, due to return no later than 4pm. According to the facility, Nicastri didn’t return that day nor the following two days.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on the 28th; he was located and arrested Saturday afternoon. He’s been charged with voluntary absence from a correctional facility, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of one year if convicted.
Nicastri had been convicted on two charges of Forgery, allegedly depositing five forged checks between June 17th and July 1st at Veridian Credit Union that he received $1775 in cash on. He’s also accused of attempting to cash a stolen check at Midwest One Bank in Coralville on July 3rd.
Additionally, he was convicted of 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle after being identified as the man who broke into a woman’s car on July 25th.
Those charges carry up to seventeen years in prison in addition to the parole violation.
