A North Liberty man who tried to cash an alleged bogus check over the summer has been arrested and charged with forgery and theft.

Police say 25-year-old Kedrick Roberts of Sugar Creek Lane entered the Midwest One Bank branch on Keokuk Street in Iowa City the afternoon of August 14th and handed the teller a fraudulent check.

Once the teller started asking questions on how Roberts acquired the check, he fled the scene, leaving behind two key pieces of evidence: the check, and his ID.

The check was written for $817.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and Roberts was booked into the Johnson County Jail around 1am Sunday. He’s been charged with forgery and 3rd degree theft, carrying a maximum combined prison sentence of seven years if convicted.
