A North Liberty man has been arrested after an alleged assault.

According to police, they were dispatched to the area of Johnson and Ronalds Streets in Iowa City Saturday night for an assault. They met what they described as a very shook up reporting party at the scene, who relayed the following story.

The woman was at a party with 29-year-old Alexander Neel of Blue Sky Drive earlier in the night. After they left, she said she needed to go home because the two got into an argument. She allegedly called her mother, which upset Neel. He then began to verbally abuse her. The woman then says she walked away from Neel, but he found her on the street later, ran up to her and punched her twice in the face. She said she ran away again, but Neel again caught up to her.

This time, Neel reportedly grabbed a yellow bat and hit the woman  in her face and ear. He then fled the scene.

When officers spoke with Neel, he said he was the one who was knocked out by the woman,  and added that he must have done something terrible to make her do that. A bruise was observed on Neel’s forehead.

A warrant was requested, and Neel was arrested Sunday after 10pm. He’s been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of one year if convicted.
