Iowa City firefighters fought a westside apartment fire Wednesday night.
According to a release from the ICFD, just before 7:30pm firefighters were dispatched to 342 Finkbine Lane for reports of a fire in an apartment. The first fire engine arrived six minutes after notification, with five other fire units arriving a short time later. Fire crews worked quickly to locate and control a kitchen fire on the lower level of the three-story building. While the fire was being brought under control, other fire crews searched the entire apartment building to ensure that all occupants had evacuated safely.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The fire damage was contained to the kitchen area of one apartment, while other parts of the building sustained smoke damage. Total damage is estimated to be $3,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the ICFD Fire Marshal.
