Iowa City police officers chasing a 22-year-old transient Friday certainly got a workout.

According to arrest reports, officers were trying to make contact with Sheldon Eugene Dexter Brown to serve an arrest warrant. Court records indicate that he was on probation on suspended sentences after being accused of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and having a concealed knife used in a crime on June 1st 2019. He allegedly missed several probation meetings and tested positive for illegal drugs while on probation.

Brown was seen in the area of Rundell Street and Jackson Avenue, and reportedly ran from officers when he saw squad cars. A foot pursuit ensued, with officers stating that Brown ignored commands to stop as he ran through multiple residential yards, jumped a fence, and ran through a creek before he was finally taken into custody.

Brown was charged with interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor. The other charges were aggravated misdemeanors carrying a total prison sentence of up to four years.
