If you’re going to steal from a store, it’s probably not a good idea to sell the merchandise at another branch of the same store. That’s what led to the arrest of a Cedar Rapids man Sunday.
According to police, 40-year-old Benjamin Wright of Miller Avenue Southwest was at the Video Games Etc store in Coralville the evening of February 21st. He and another unidentified male reportedly concealed a binder containing Magic The Gathering cards in a backpack that Wright brought into the store and left without attempting to pay for it.
The next day, the two allegedly went to the Cedar Rapids branch of the store and attempted sold the binder, worth between $300-400, for 99 bucks.
As per store policy, Wright filled out a trade-in form, complete with his name, phone number and driver’s license information.
Once the store realized what happened, they contacted police, who arrested Wright on Sunday afternoon, charging him with 4th degree theft. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to one year in jail.
