The state High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union have announced the revamped opening days for their baseball and softball seasons.
Assuming that school restarts May 1st, which is not a given, first day of team practice will be May 18th. Pitchers and catchers can start practicing on May 1st, and ten days of batting practice will be allowed between the 1st and the 18th.
First allowed competition date will be June 1st.
They have not changed the post-season, announcing that the state softball tournament runs as scheduled, July 20-24 and the state baseball tournament July 24-August 1.
In a joint release, the organizations say they’ve not set a maximum or minimum number of games, giving schools the leeway to set their own regular season schedules.
Baseball was originally slated to start May 4th and softball on the 11th.
