An area transient was taken into custody Saturday morning for violating a no-contact order, but not without some difficulty.
According to police, they were dispatched to the 2600 block of Wayne Avenue at 10:36am on reports of a man violating a protective order. Police located the protected party in front of the residence, talking with 911 dispatch.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Antoine Bryant, reportedly had locked himself in the laundry room of the residence and refused to come out. Police ordered Bryant to unlock the door several times to no avail. He also reportedly told officers that his “momma” had given him permission to be at the residence. Officers eventually had to force their way into the room.
Bryant allegedly struck an officer in the face as he was coming through the door. He was directed to the ground and handcuffed. Bryant reportedly scratched at an officers forearms, leaving marks. The officer also accused Bryant of moving his mouth towards the officer’s arm, causing him to pull the arm away to keep from being bitten. Bryant reportedly said he wasn’t trying to bite the offier, but only “peached” him.
Bryant was taken into custody and charged with violation of a no-contact order, assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury, and interference with official acts causing bodily injury. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
Another no-contact order was requested between the involved parties.
