A Cedar Rapids woman was arrested Thursday morning after a check of her driving status after an accident came up as barred.

Officers were called to the eastbound interchange with 380 on I80 at 7:17am on reports of a two-vehicle accident. Arriving officers located a black sedan on the right shoulder and a semi-trailer further down the road. The sedan, reportedly driven by 35-year-old Megan Upson of 38th Street Drive Northeast. Had sustained heavy damage. She told police the accident occurred when she attempted to merge from the right to center lane.

She provided a temporary restricted driver’s license, and said that she was taking the car out for a ride getting ready to sell it. A check of her records showed that she failed to comply with the restrictions as the vehicle did not have an ignition interlock installed. She also had been barred from driving because of habitual offenses.

She was charged with driving while barred and driving while license denied or revoked. If convicted on the counts, she could be sentenced to up to three years in prison. She was also charged with improper lane usage.
