Being asleep at the wheel in Iowa City led to the drug possession arrest of a Coralville man.
Police say 23-year-old Zachary Prestridge of Holiday Road was observed near the intersection of Scott Boulevard and First Avenue operating a Chevy Impala. He reportedly was asleep at the wheel with the car running.
Upon investigation, police say they found a substance consistent with marijuana in plain view; a subsequent search reportedly turned up a large bag of the drug. Prestridge allegedly admitted that he bag was his.
A check of his driving record showed his status as barred for being a habitual offender into February 2023.
Prestridge was charged with first offense Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving while Barred. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
