Longtime Iowa City Community School District administrator Gregg Shoultz is leaving his current position as director of PK-12 Online Learning to take a position in Nigeria’s capital.

The Daily Iowan reports that the overseas position isn’t something Shoultz is unfamiliar with. He and his wife previously taught in Guam and Switzerland before coming to Iowa City.

He retired from the ICCSD after 21 years in the schools, serving in various administrative positions. This past year he tackled the online learning department position. Now, he will be principal at the American International School of Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. The DI says the school allows children of American and other expatriate families to get a typical Western education. They are joined by local students who are preparing to continue their educations in America.

Shoultz’ wife, Amy, is a clinical professor at the U of I and teaches an English class at West High; she will join her husband at the school to teach middle school English Language Learners.

The couple plan to leave for Abuja in July.
