A Cedar Rapids man has been taken into custody after authorities say he burglarized storage units near Solon.

27-year-old Chase Kelley of 11th Street NW was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 6:15 Friday night. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says Kelley was one of two subjects who broke into three different storage units at A+ Lake MacBride Storage on Ely Road just before 10:15am on December 15th. One victim told investigators that a Honda 4-wheeler and a generator were stolen from his storage unit. The two items had an estimated value of $2,800.

Video surveillance from A+ Lake MacBride Storage allegedly shows Kelley and another subject breaking into the storage units. The video also captured the U-Haul and Chevy Impala the two suspects used in committing the burglary. The Impala was later found to be stolen out of Cedar Rapids.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says Kelley later confessed to committing the burglaries. He’s charged with 2nd Degree Theft and 3rd Degree Burglary. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.

There is no word on if charges are pending against the accomplice.
