A Kalona man faces charges that he wrote over $2,000 worth of bad checks to Menard’s.

28-year-old Lucas Ray of 11th Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 6:15 Thursday night. Iowa City Police say Ray wrote six different checks totaling $2,097.02 to the Iowa City Menard’s store on Naples Avenue between April 30th and May 4th.

Police say Ray did not have sufficient funds in his bank account to cover the checks. He’s charged with 2nd Degree Theft, a Class D felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.
