State officials have approved a medical marijuana dispensary and manufacturing facility in Iowa City.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that on Friday the Iowa Department of Public Health approved allowing the Iowa Cannabis Company to transfer its Cedar Rapids license to Iowa City.

The company has already received zoning approval to build a new medical marijuana manufacturing facility on the south end of Scott Boulevard. The dispensary would be located in the strip mall on the former site of Paul’s Discount, near Harbor Freight, Clean Laundry and Zio Johno’s. It would be the state’s fifth medical marijuana dispensary, with others located in Waterloo, Windsor Heights, Sioux City and Council Bluffs.

The Iowa City dispensary, which was initially announced last September, was supposed to open on July 1st. But delays pushed that date back to October 1st.
